Michael Vick, RETURNS to the NFL, "TRUE OR FALSE”
There must be a lot of Michael Vick fans in Atlanta and around the country, or there are a lot of people who lost their minds.
Tony Dungy believes Vick is focused again, and that he is starting to put his life back together. If you remember Michael Vick was released from the Atlanta Falcons when he was sent to prison for bankrolling a dog fighting ring. He served a 18 month stint in the penitentiary, but now he has been released and is now able to restart his life.
Tony Dungy, the former Indianapolis Colts coach has agreed to mentor Vick as part of the quarterback’s conditional reinstatement to the NFL.
Dungy, said in many sports pages that he felt like Michael Vick needed a second chance, “Everyone needs a second chance”, for people who admit their mistakes and are committed to changing”.
People are very skeptical and people will have to find there’s a different side to Vick that we have not seen yet.
Dungy retired in January, two years after leading Indianapolis to a Super Bowl title. He also has been involved in prison ministries. Dungy met with Vick in a Federal penitentiary where the former Atlanta Falcon was serving time.
Tony also met with Vick on a second occasion and has spoken to him several times on the phone.
If you recall, Michael Vick was a star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, until his property was search, because of Dog Fighting at his home in Virginia.
Some say, well Vick never had dealings with what went on in this Virginia home, but he was bankrolling the whole dog fighting fights. It was later found out in court testimony that Vick was at the scene when Dogs that refused to fight were tortured and some killed in horrible ways.
NOW MY QUESTION TO YOU IS SIMPLE?
WOULD YOU LET A MAN PLAY ON YOUR FOOTBALL TEAM THAT CAUSED MAJOR DEATH TO ANIMALS?
ALSO WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU’RE PET, MAYBE YOU DOG OR YOUR CAT WAS BEING INJURED, FOR NO REASON, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
WELL MICHAEL VICK KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING HE JUST NEVER LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW UNTIL HE WAS CAUGHT.
What I don’t understand is why when Michael was sent to Prison that the commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell said “Vick would be “INDEPHINETLY” suspend from ever playing in the NFL again.
Now since Vick has served his time, and is out, he is ready to go straight back to the NFL.
And the same Commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell is saying that Vick can attend team meetings and can play but he will only be able to play the last 2 preseason games for what ever team that wants him.
His time to return is October 19, 2009, for what team I have no idea, I have also been told and rumors are flying that he may not be a quarterback, but be used as a wide receiver, or running back, some still insist he will be a quarterback for some team in the NFL.
IF MICHAEL VICK DOES RETURN I AM SURE THAT “PETA”, WILL BE OUT IN FORCE AS VICK IS THE #1 TARGET ON THEIR LIST.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that Vick can immediately take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games, IF HE CAN FIND A TEAM.
Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities EXCEPT GAMES and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 [OCT.18-19] at the latest.
Tony Dungy also stated that Vick wants to reconnect with his three children after missing 18 months of their lives.
On Monday, we learned that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell really doesn't believe that 23 months of incarceration was punishment enough for Michael Vick. For Vick -- who was conditionally reinstated by the league Monday and might not have a chance at playing in a regular season game until Week 6 -- the question now is, what is he prepared to do in order to resurrect his career?
There shouldn't be a complicated answer to this. Vick can begin to rebuild his reputation by doing one thing: getting back onto a football field as quickly as possible and proving that he still can play.
Ok here is where I am getting hammered on the Vick ordeal, people say look at the Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis who went from being caught up in a murder trial to being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a Super Bowl MVP.
Also you have Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant once was accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a woman before charges were dropped during jury selection.
Those days seem like distant memories after Bryant earned his own MVP in 2008 and won a Championship without Shaquille O’Neal by his side.
Now back to Michael Vick who turned 29 on June 26, can he still have a say in his future in the NFL?
Vicks major concern is first to find a team that wants him, and knows that when he arrives he will have loads of baggage that will come with his presence on the field.
There has already been some teams say, they will have nothing to do with him at all, they don’t need the distractions and the animal rights groups stirring up trouble for fans who are trying to attend their team’s games.
Then we have the newly formed United Football League should be an appealing option for him as well.
Even if it means he will be competing against teams with less talent and teams that really know one will watch.
The only thing good about Vick signing with a new UFL Team is that he would become the showcase figure since there will be no more famous face.
If Vick could prove he was still a playmaker and a real force, the NFL Teams may have a different outlook in resigning him to the NFL.
Playing also in this league the NFL could see how the protesters reacted to him in the league.
There would be no shame in Michael Vick playing in the UFL, and such a move could bolt him back to a NFL Team. His pay in the UFL would be a small $1.6 million to play in six games.
The United Football League starts its action on Oct.8.
Let’s not kid ourselves here, Vick could be on the road to NO WHERE, just like quarterbacks, Aaron Brooks, Daunte Culpepper, and Byron Leftwich, how easy is it to be overlooked as damaged goods and have all kinds of legal problems.
If Michael Vick can return and play in the NFL, he still will have to pay off his $3.7 million dollar fees in legal fees, plus a $1 million dollar bankruptcy case.
Put it this way Michael Vick is a problem and a NFL team that takes him will have some major problems, I never said a NFL team will not try and sign him but if he is signed be prepared for the name Michael Vick to be on your local news everyday and in every city that he plays in, can you remember the Atlanta Braves star relief pitcher, John Rocker, well where is he NOW?
I know I seem to be the only person, NOT wanting to see Michael Vick play in the NFL again, but there must be some animal lovers that read this BLOG that is why I have the poll above, please take time and vote.
Thanks.
